In vielen Ländern Europas wird am 23. Juni die Mittsommernacht zelebriert, also der längste Tag und die kürzeste Nacht des Jahres. Besonders in Skandinavien wird ausgelassen gefeiert, mit Lagerfeuer, Tanz, Musik und Bootsfahrten hinaus auf die Fjorde. Meine Freundin Yvonne aus Göteborg hat mir dazu folgendes geschrieben:
„Old traditional costumes are worn by the elder population, which looks quite odd these days. Then the traditional new potatoes and different kinds of herring, cheese, bread and snaps and lots of singing. Most of the time people have bad hangovers and don’t really remember too much of that what happened. Meeting friends and family on the countryside or in the summerhouse is about the most important.“
