Die Suche nach einem Sinn

P1050933 (Large)Ich reflektiere meinen Beruf kritisch. Das Reisen ist mit Abstand der schönste Teil meines Jobs, das Schreiben der schwerste. Vielleicht, weil meine Zeilen den Menschen, von denen ich berichte, so nahe kommen. Meine Artikel sind in sich selbst kleine Reisen und entführen in alle Teile der Welt, wobei die Ferne für mich vermutlich nur der Anlass ist, um am Ende über das ganz Nahe zu schreiben: Über das zutiefst Menschliche. Wie viele andere treibt auch mich die Suche nach einem Sinn.

Ein Herz für verlassene Hunde

Marine Mikayelyan, Armenierin, lebt seit vielen Jahren in Spanien. Sie ist Illustratorin und Designerin, und ich kenne sie über meinen Blog. Genau wie ich liebt sie Tiere, vor allem die verlassenen. Und davon gibt es in Spanien viele. Mit dem Erlös ihres neuesten Buchprojektes werden Tierheime in Spanien unterstützt. Gleichzeitig soll das Bilderbuch Kinder (und auch Erwachsene) dazu anregen, über unsere Umwelt und die Natur nachzudenken. Das Buch entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Marines Freunden Freya, Ignacio, Andrea und ihren Vierbeinern Paquito, Katia, Nissy und Rome, die im Freundeskreis vermittelt werden konnten.

Designer and Book Illustrator Marine Mikayelyan from Armenia lives for many years in Spain. I know her from my Blog and charity activities. She loves animals the same I do (especially the abandoned ones, and there are many of them in Spain!). With the sale of her book she supports animal shelters in Spain. At the same time the book is awareness building for kids and adults concerning our environment. The book is a cooperation work of Marine with her friends Freya, Ignacio, Andrea and their animals Paquito, Katia, Nissy und Rome, who got happily adopted.

Volkach – die Perle am Main

Während der nächsten Monate wird Euch sl4lifestyle immer mal ein paar hübsche fränkische Dörfer vorstellen. Denn die haben wir hier zur Genüge! Beginnen wir heute mit Volkach! Reiseziel Weingenuss oder Weinerlebnis – so könnte das Motto für einen Besuch der Volkacher Mainschleife lauten. Da ich nicht weit entfernt wohne, besuche ich Volkach am Main sehr gerne und bestimmt ein paar Mal im Jahr. Vor ein paar Tagen war es wieder soweit. Durch den Nebel wirkte der Ort fast mystisch. So hatte ich ihn selbst noch nie erlebt. Über 750 Jahre Stadtgeschichte mit einem mittelalterlichen Stadtkern sowie fränkischer Weinbau- und Gastronomietradition bietet der rund 9.000 Einwohner-Ort.

Silvaner, Müller Thurgau oder vielleicht einen Schluck fränkischen Rotwein? Hier liegt das Herzstück des Fränkischen Weinlands an der Volkacher Mainschleife. Es ist die größte zusammenhängende Weinbauregion Frankens! Kultur und Zeitgeschichte vereinen sich zu einem Potpourri aus Ortsgeschichte, historischen Persönlichkeiten und geschichtlich wertvollen Orten.

Frankens größtes Weinfest findet 2015 zum 67. Mal statt! Fünf Tage lang wird gefeiert von Freitag, 14. bis Dienstag, 18. August 2015!

Im Ortsteil Gaibach wurde zwischen 1590 und 1608 ein Wasserschloss im Renaissance-Stil errichtet. 1650 erwarb es Philipp Erwein von Schönborn. Zwischen 1694 und 1710 wurde es in ein spätbarockes Lustschloss umgewandelt. Heute werden die Schlossgebäude als Internat für das Franken-Landschulheim genutzt.

Kommt einfach mit auf einen Rundgang! Es wird Euch bestimmt gefallen!

During the next months I will introduce you to some pretty Franconian villages near my home. Let’s start with Volkach (about 9.000 inhabitants) at the river Main which I visited some days ago. It was a misty day with an almost mysterious atmosphere.

Travel destination “wine land“ or „wine adventure“ – that is how a visit to Volkach Main River loop could be best described. What about some Silvaner, Mueller Thurgau, or maybe a taste of Franconian red? Here you find the very heart of the Franconian wine country. It is the largest uninterrupted wine growing region in Franconia! Enjoy wine tastings of traditional and contemporary local wines as well as cultural and leisuretime activities to suit every interest – from historical or romantic to the contemporary and action-filled!

This year, Franconia’s biggest wine festival is held in Volkach for the 67th time with 5 whole days of celebrations: From Friday 14th to Tuesday 18th August 2015!

In nearby Gaibach with its 500 inhabitants there is a Water castle, built around 1700 and owned by the Earl of Schoenborn, modified into a late-Baroque pleasure palace. Today, the building is used as a middle and high school with boarding school facility.

Kurz nachgebellt: Mein neues Halsband

Eben komme ich vom Spaziergang zurück. Wie schon in den letzten Tagen haben mir sowohl Vier- wie auch Zweibeiner nachgeschaut. Aber wie! An was lag’s? Bestimmt an meinem schicken, handgearbeiteten Teil von La Feb. Neben Grün/Lila trage ich nun auch Ocker/Braun, je nachdem, was gerade angesagt ist. Ich habe schon immer auf meinem holländischen Freund Jelle geschielt, weil der immer so top-modisch ist. Und jetzt kann ich mit ihm problemlos mithalten! Wenn ich mich also mit jüngeren vierbeinigen Mädels verabrede, steht psychedelisches Grün auf dem Programm, für die älteren und eleganteren dagegen wähle ich die gedeckteren Töne, wie ocker oder braun. Und damit liege ich voll im Trend!

Versucht es selbst einmal!

LaFeb 001Again, today, many doggies and their people looked at me, astonished, dazzled. Why? Sure, it’s because of my new collar from La Feb. Extraordinaire and hand made. I have it in psychedelic green/purple and in sophisticated ochre-colored/brown. Perfect for special occasions. My Dutch friend Jelle is wearing the hip things already for a longer time. He is a real fashionista. I guess his Mum supports him!! In case I have dates with the younger doggie girls I am wearing my green/purple collar, for the walks with the older and more sophisticated ones I prefer the low-keyed colors. That’s my strategy and it works!

Kurz nachgebellt: Balthasar

Wuff, was für ein Tag. Balthasar, einer der Heiligen 3 Könige, hatte sich erkältet. Ich wurde gefragt ob ich seine Rolle übernehmen könnte. Sie meinten, dass ich schon so hervorragend das Schaf an der Krippe gespielt hätte und mir die Schauspielerei im Blut liege. Ich habe nicht lange überlegt und zugebellt. Bezahlt wurde ich auch nicht schlecht, für 4 Stunden unterwegs sogar ganz ordentlich. Es hat sich also gelohnt und zudem viel Spaß gemacht.

Today I was very busy. One of the Holy 3 Kings, Balthazar, got a cold and I was asked to replace him. They remembered my role as a sheep at the manger and how well I performed. It was a 4 hour job and I got paid well. I finally understand the religious meaning and somehow it was also fun.

Heilige Drei Könige is celebrated on 6th January. In some areas of Germany it is a public holiday. The day celebrates the arrival of the three wise men from the east in Bethlehem. In the Evangelical Church it is known as Epihanias – similar to the English name of the day in some countries “Epiphany”.

On this day, groups of children known as Sternsinger go from door to door and sing a song or recite a poem or prayer. They then write in chalk above the door C+B+M and the number of the year with three crosses, eg. 20*C+M+B+08. These letters stand for the latin phrase „Christus mansionem benedicat“, meaning „God protect this house“.

Ihr nehmt Euch Zeit, hier zu lesen und dies zu wissen gibt uns ein großartiges Gefühl. Viele von Euch kennen wir nur digital, aber Ihr seid uns ans Herz gewachsen. Create your own path

„You’ll never be as young as you are right now“, said a friend to me recently. And he was right.

What is important to me in life? Really important? I checked it out. That’s my conclusion and my way to start the new year.

L1160232Don’t be afraid to make new friends that understand you and your life. Learn and grow. I keep a journal. Sometimes the best way to clear my mind and keep a clear vision is to write down my thoughts at the end of the day or week. I consider what I did, whom I met, how I felt, what was on my mind. And – I try to think outside the box. Smile at strangers and you will get many smiles back. I tried and it worked.

Take care of your body. It’s the only place you and me have to live. And don’t forget that a body is not everything. You also have a soul. Your exterior will never define your interior.

Who you are is not what you have. It is what you do with what you have. Exactly in this order. Ever noticed how some of the happiest people in the world have the least? I did during my travels in very poor countries and when I met people who are living a very basic life. It isn’t about what you have (material things or achievements), but what you decide to do with that. Your life is your legacy. Appreciate what you have before asking for more. Because there is always someone worse off than you.

Giving more time to beloved ones, family and friends. If life were consistent and without ups and downs, it would be boring and monotone. Get back up when you are kicked down and make decisions. It’s all about building your character. Never fear change.

The sooner you pinpoint exactly what you want to achieve in your life, the sooner it will happen to you. Create your own path, don’t choose the well beaten. Dare to be different and aim for the moon. In order to reach the stars!

Escape into a swimming pool not only on bad days. Two hours and some 1.000 meters later you’ll have forgotten the trivialities.

Just go or just swim!
