Juárez is a shadow of its former self. But the city still retains some of its former glory. The famous Kentucky Club is still serving the original margarita.
Dating back to 1920, the Kentucky Club may be the oldest bar in the El Paso/Juárez region. Marilyn Monroe stopped by after divorcing Arthur Miller in 1961. Also Ronald Reagan, Bob Dylan, Al Capone and Jack Kerouac were its guests. The Kentucky Club is obviously one of the last vestiges of Juárez’s glamorous past, when the town attracted Hollywood stars and American recording artists who came to wallow in its decadent nightlife. The Kentucky Club claims to have invented the margarita. I had one. Cheers!
