Gemma is a UK DJ, based in Newquay, Cornwall
Just listen and get the Vibe here!
Gemma grew up in a small surf town with perfect beaches. Surfing was her first passion and she progressed to a fairly high standard for her age. Her mum was her biggest supporter but sadly she passed away when Gemma was 11 which flipped her world upside down. But Gemma was lucky enough to have an older sister, Beverly, who then took care of her.
Gemma did continue to surf and compete for the next 3 – 4 years but her love for the sport had somewhat diminished and it was then she discovered house music and so she started going out to parties and clubs with a group of friends who she still to this day is very close with and it was them who played a huge part in her upbringing. These friends supported her all through her life with the loss of her mother.
So from the age of about 14 she was completely in love with the dance music culture.
It was the year 2000 so the end of the 90’s rave scene was still very present.
„I was in love with the dance floor!“

What was the reason you got into the music business?
After spending a couple of years dancing and admiring the DJ’s I just thought one day, yes I would like to be the one stood up there. The one looking out to all the smiley, happy faces.
What is your preferred music style?
House & Techno! I’m all about the deep dark hard stuff. The connection people have through this style of music is like no other I have ever experienced. House music obviously is very close to my heart. I grew up listening to all the greats: Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Carl Cox, Sasha & Digweed. The list goes on …
Your artist name?
Well that’s just me, Gemma Healey. No messing about here.
In which locations have you played?
My hometown, Newquay. I used to have a night called „This Is Sick“ at a local bar in town. A couple of small festivals around Cornwall. Bristol. Portugal. Thailand.
What do you think of mainstream music?
This is a tough one. I enjoy and listen to most genres and like them all for many different reasons. If we are talking about mainstream dance music then I will probably sway away from some the stuff that’s on the radio. Most electronic dance music these days is full of old hooks and samples from some of if not the best music ever made.
You just can’t beat the originals right?
I like underground music. It’s more pure and raw and hedonistic.
Would you accept a paid Dj slot if it was for a style of music you do not like? Which style of music do you not like?
I would have to discuss with the promotor/owner of the venue first. I’m a techno DJ so if I were asked to play a drum and bass or hip hop set I would politely decline.
Do you have stage fright ? If yes what is your remedy for it?
Always a little bit of nervous excitement for sure. A few deep breathes, a swift drink and we’re ready to go.
What are your weaknesses?
Hmmm, I’m an Aries so I think I’m definitely a little impatient.
What are your strengths?
Great listener. If anyone needs a good ear, I’m your girl. Also a great selector. I know a sick track when I hear one.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
After my last trip to Thailand I have 100% realised that I am supposed to live in a warm country. Hopefully playing good music in many locations to like minded beautiful people.
Which DJ/producer would you like to meet in person?
Ahh – Nina Kraviz all day long ! She is a huge inspiration of mine. Her fearlessness to play what she wants when she wants. Her confident, endearing, mysterious presence on stage. Nina is a producer, singer DJ and her own manager. Yes, she blows my mind! Also Bjork. That woman has a terrifically beautiful mind and her knowledge and general being just has me in absolute awe.
