It was a real quite afternoon when we undertook the boat tour on the Canal du Midi. Constructed by Pierre-Paul Riquet during the XVII Century in order to link the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the Canal du Midi was formerly used to transport goods and passengers and it remains popular with boaters and tourists.
You see even many travellers with their house boats. It is a very popular spot to embark and you feel like being your own Captain. It has cut through the very heart of the city of Carcassonne since 1810. In 1996, the Canal du Midi was listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
